GPR Surveys
Overview

What it is

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) sends radio waves into the ground and reads their reflections to reveal what’s buried below, including non-conductive services that electromagnetic methods can miss, such as plastic pipes and ducts.

GPR is a core part of our utility detection toolkit and is also used to locate voids, foundations, rebar and other subsurface features.

Method

What’s involved

Site assessment

We assess ground conditions and select the appropriate antenna frequency.

GPR scanning

Systematic grid scans build a picture of subsurface reflections.

Interpretation

Our surveyors interpret the data, correlating with other detection methods.

Mark-up & reporting

Findings are marked on site and/or delivered as a survey drawing.

Deliverables

What you receive

  • Detected features marked on site or in CAD
  • Integration with PAS 128 utility surveys
  • Depth estimates where conditions allow
  • Survey report with interpretation
  • Radargram data on request
Applications

Where it’s used

Utility detection (especially non-metallic services), void and structure location, concrete and reinforcement scanning, and pre-excavation safety checks.

Standards

Standards & compliance

Used as a detection method within PAS 128 surveys. Results depend on ground conditions, which we always report transparently.
